It wouldn’t be the offseason if Jerry Jones wasn’t taking a risk on a questionable free agent.
According to the Daily Caller, Jones is considering on signing troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel. The expectation is that he would be the backup to Tony Romo and have time to get himself together opposed to playing right away.
The considered deal would likely be a one-year deal with low risk to the organization, but also allows Manziel to show that he can behave first and foremost.
Jones has been a fan of Manziel heading into the draft and considered trading up to get him before the Cleveland Browns traded with the Philadelphia Eagles to take him off the board.
His journey in Cleveland was a bumpy one as Manziel entered into rehab before his second year in the league. Manziel showed flashes of what he could be, but not enough for the coaching staff to believe in him to be the long-term starter. There were reports that he was late to meetings and practices, which hurt his chances of starting.
As Manziel lost his starting spot, the legal troubles followed. During the season, Manziel was accused of striking his then-girlfriend while driving on the highway.
